Interest VS ability Interest and ability- are they proportional? And what comes first?
Ability comes with practice, tell me, what can you do well that doesn't need practice? (Slacking probably, but it's not an ability. It's an ultimate relaxation.) But what do you practise frequently? Most probably something that interest you more than others right? So the more interested you are, the more effort you put in to practise and the better your ability gets. Like if you are interested in playing badminton, you will willingly play until your arms sore, your legs wobble, and of course you get better and better after each play. So does ability comes after interest?
Then again, if you are good in something, you would naturally come to like something right? who wouldnt be interested in being the fastest runner, if you can be the fastest runner? who wouldnt be interested in topping all exams, if you can top all exams? IF YOU CAN. so does interest come after ability?
If you are not interested in something, but you put in effort due to forced circumstances, and become really good at it, wouldn't you come to the day when you are interested to do the thing you are good at? But people wouldn't usually put in effort in something they are not interested in, unless of course, under forced circumstances, but when finally given a choice, they wouldn't be interested in it at all. So i suppose interest is proportional to high ability. But not proportional to basic ability, because you can JUST DO IT despite being uninterested, thus acquiring the basic ability. But to be truly knowledgable and good in a certain aspect, a certain level of interest is needed, yeah?
What constitutes interest then? To be interested in something means having the desire to want to excel in something. Say, if you are interested in social studies( i got f9 BOO) you would surely want to get a1 for it right? You might not get it due to reasons like lack of effort, but you would want to get a1. that is the desire to want to excel in something. that is being INTERESTED. So, if you are interested, and you work at it, in an ideal situation, your ability would increase as well. So, ability don't come with interest. ability comes with hard work. and the will to do hard work comes with determination. and simply being interested just does not mean you will be determined to work hard.
so i suppose interest and ability are indirectly linked, and certainly not directly proportional, such that being interested doesn't mean you are able to do it. and being able to do it might not mean you are interested.
although it certainly is a waste if you are able to do it, but not at all interested, whereas in another situation somebody else might be really interested and working really hard, wanting to be able to do it, but cannot make it.
the more important part is probably the interest part, because at the end, we are to lead a happy life, and to lead a happy life, we should do what we are more interested in.
